Understanding Zionism: What it does, doesn’t, and might mean

Today people argue over the definition of Zionism. Is it a Jewish State or a State for the Jews? Is the purpose of Israel to be a demographic center for the people, a cultural hub, a political safe haven. As it happens, some of the fiercest debates about what Zionism should be happened more than a century ago. This class will situate us in those debates trying to understand the people in the room when Zionism first took shape. We will meet them, read their writings, and unpack what they might think about the Israel of today.
